Mastic Man Seriously Injured In ATV Accident

Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating a crash that seriously injured a Mastic man Wednesday afternoon.

Alvin Allan was riding a 2006 Honda ATV west on Poospatuck Lane in Mastic, passing another westbound vehicle, when he collided head-on with a Honda dirt bike that was traveling east at 2:20 p.m.

Allan, 47, of 128 Poospatuck Lane, was airlifted via Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition. Jamont Burwell, 24, of 616 Taylor Ave., East Patchogue, the driver of the Honda dirt bike, was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue with minor injuries.

Allan and Burwell were each operating with a suspended license. Neither was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The ATV and dirt bike were impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752.
