Mastic-Shirley: Island's Best-Kept Secret

Someone on FB had a link to a NYT article about Wyandanch thinking about incorporating ... 20 years ago. I did a quick search on NYT for our area and bumped into this interesting article that came out in 2001 touting Mastics-Shirley as the Islands best kept secret.

Then the beaches, the boats and Moriches Bay come into view, and it's soon clear why Edward J. Hennessey, a Brookhaven town councilman, has called this part of the South Shore ''a poor man's paradise.'' This paradise is a 15-square mile peninsula of about 45,000 residents that leads to Fire Island to the south.

Take a quick read.
