Score us some brewskies!

Suffolk County Police today arrested two store clerks after they sold alcoholic beverages to a minor.

Fifth Precinct Crime Section officers conducted an undercover operation in response to recent complaints that stores in the precinct were selling alcoholic beverages to underage drinkers. Crime Section officers utilized two underage volunteers, who attempted to purchase alcohol at six establishments in the Fifth Precinct area. Two of the six establishments sold alcohol to a 17-year-old volunteer.

The following clerks were arrested for Unlawfully Dealing with a Child 1st Degree, a Class A misdemeanor:

Margarita Fermin, 40, of 55 Amity St., Patchogue, owner of Fermin Grocery, located at 15 Carman St. , Patchogue

Orhan Sahin, 53, of 137 Magnolia Drive , Mastic Beach, working at Friendly Quick Mart, located at 2815 Route 27A, Brookhaven

These violations will be referred to the New York State Liquor Authority. Fermin and Sahin will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on March 31, 2009. A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
