It Takes A Village

There seems to be a lot of enthusiasm and momentum building to make Mastic Beach and incorporated village. There's been an exploratory committee set up and there have been open meetings since the start of this process. In fact, there was a meeting this past Monday at the Mastic Beach Fire Department (on Neighborhood Rd).

There are many that oppose it, and also many pushing for it to happen.

What are your thoughts?

A proposed village can nott address the number one problem afflicting this area - absentee landlords. I would prefer to see an Absentee Landlord Surcharge implemented prior to incorporation. With only code enforcement in place, it will not make the sheer amount of absentee landlords go away. The disproportionate amount of taxes still fall on the primary resident homeowners, so please tell me how you know, not think, you can force these landlords out of this area.
Will taxes in the buisness district go up?
